The unexpected effect that using a ‘baby filter’ can have on the brain

Adults may find themselves unlocking long-forgotten childhood memories simply by viewing their own face through a digital “baby filter”, new research suggests.

Fifty participants were involved in a study, where they were asked to observe a live video feed of their face, digitally altered to appear childlike.

    As participants moved, the…

Is sleeping outside good for you? Science has a clear answer.

There are plenty of studies that suggest that being out in nature is good for your health, so it makes sense that sleeping beneath the stars would be, too. But if you’re not a person that’s prone to camping, are you missing out?

“Like most things related to sleep, there’s a lot of personalization involved,” says Dr….

Giant Dinosaurs Were Riddled With a Devastating Disease, Fossils Show : ScienceAlert

Dinosaur life wasn’t all peaches and cream before the Chicxulub asteroid struck Earth. Some were plagued by much smaller dangers long before.

A new study has found evidence that a potentially deadly bone disease endangered the lives of numerous long-necked dinosaurs in what is now Brazil, roughly 80 million years ago.

These are some of South America’s largest dinosaurs, and yet they faced a very tiny enemy.

Some (very adorable) whales and dolphins were caught forming unlikely friendships

We might picture dolphins as the excitable younger cousin to the cool, composed humpback whale, but it seems these two species might have a budding friendship after all.

In fact, new suction-camera footage from humpback whales shows the depths dolphins will go to in order to hang out with their marine companions. The whales are followed by bottlenose dolphins from the sunlit surface down to the ocean floor, where they swim and play side-by-side.

Social behaviour between whales and dolphins…

Submarine Landslide May Have Contributed to This Devastating 1957 Tsunami

Following an 8.8 magnitude earthquake off the coast of Russia in 2025, tsunami warnings were issued in Hawaii and other parts of the U.S. West Coast. Luckily, the tsunami warnings were downgraded, and there was no catastrophic impact.

Underwater earthquakes have led to severe tsunamis in the past, such as the 2004 event that affected Indonesia and a tsunami in 1957 that impacted parts of Alaska and Hawaii. Understanding and researching these past events could lead to improved risk…

This Potent Psychedelic Mysteriously Echoes Near-Death Experiences : ScienceAlert

Have you ever wondered why people who nearly die often describe speeding toward supernatural light, or seeing their life flash before their eyes?

You may have also heard about the powerful psychedelic dimethyltryptamine (DMT), a class A illegal drug in the UK, and how it might generate the so-called near-death experiences.

In a recent study I compared both types of experience and found they share fascinating similarities – but also critical differences.
